Alejandro (Alex) Alvarado Rojas

Alejandro is a doctoral student in Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California. He aims to unpack the tensions and opportunities arising from at the intersection of datafication, social change, and governance. His research is influenced by the fields of Critical Data StudiesCommunication and Science and Technology Studies (STS) with an emphasis on collective action, publics and data infrastructures. Alejandro has been a research assistant for the Annenberg Networks Network (ANN) and the Annenberg Research Network on International Communication (ARNIC); also he is currently a member of the research collective Media As Sociotechnical Systems (MASTS). He is affiliated with the Environmental Data and Governance Initiative (EDGI) as a concerned researcher/citizen and was a fellow at the Open Tech Fund.

Alejandro holds a dual Master of Science and Arts degree in Global Media and Communication from the London School of Economics and University of Southern California. He obtained his B.A in Communication at the University of California, Davis after transferring from De Anza Community College.
