Inviting applications for a Digital Equity Postdoctoral Fellowship

We invite applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship during the 2021-2022 academic year, starting as soon as July 2021, focused broadly on issues of digital equity and broadband affordability. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work on a grant-funded research project analyzing how best to sustainably connect low-income and marginalized U.S. populations to high-speed internet service they can afford and use. The fellowship allows scholars to advance their research agenda in the field through formal and informal training and extensive collaboration with distinguished researchers. Working under the mentorship of Professors François Bar and Hernan Galperin, the candidate will coordinate a research team that includes USC faculty, graduate students and outside experts. The fellow is expected to interface with the funder on an ongoing basis and to coordinate with other project partners. 

The applicant should have strong public policy analysis skills, preferably on internet/telecom issues (candidates with experience in other social policy areas such as housing, food or transportation policy will also be considered). Empirical skills and training in program evaluation are highly desirable. We are looking for scholars from relevant disciplines such as Public Policy, Communication, Economics, Information Studies or Sociology. Candidates with research experience on policies aimed at improving opportunities and outcomes for traditionally under-served groups are particularly desired. Strong oral and written communications skills, and the ability to work as part of a team and to meet deadlines are required. Data visualization and/or GIS training are also desirable.

The fellowship offers a competitive salary and benefits. The fellow must have completed all requirements for their doctoral degree by mid-August 2021. Graduating doctoral students and pre-tenure professors with a doctorate in a social science discipline may apply.
